The DOW FILMTECTM BW30-400 membrane element has a nominal effective membrane area of 400 square feet and a water production capacity of 40 m3/d (10,500 gpd) under standard test conditions. Its outer diameter is the same as that of other standard 8 inch elements. BW30-400 increases the amount of water produced by increasing the membrane area, not by increasing the membrane flux and the pressure of the feed water. Therefore, the rate of fouling can be maintained at a low level, thereby maintaining long-term high-yield water and prolonging the life of membrane elements. The low operating pressure of this component increases the economical efficiency of the system. The increased film area of the BW30-400 allows the newly designed RO system to use fewer components, thus making the system more compact and saving installation costs.
