The Ultimate Guide to Compressor Filters

Beta value (ß value)

is a measure of filter effectiveness. The value represents the ratio derived from the number of particles before and after passing through the filter channel at a given pressure drop. The general formula ßx = number of particles before the filter > x(μm) / number of particles after the filter > x(μm). Example 10 μm at β 200 means that there are 200 times more particles with a size greater than or equal to 10 μm on the inlet side than on the outlet side.

 This results in:

ßx = 1 no particle separation

ßx = 2 50% separation

The current minimum practical target value is ßx = 200, which means that 99.5% of particle size x is filtered out.

Bypass valve

Valve to ensure oil flow to the lubrication point, necessary for cold starts with viscous oil or clogged filters.

Filter element

The filter element is the component responsible for filtration.

Filter fineness

Filter fineness or µ is the size of the particles that can be filtered out by a filter, based on its effectiveness/filter fineness.

Absolute filter fineness

This term comes from hydraulics and corresponds to the beta value. For example, if the filter fineness is 10 µ “absolute”, this means that the filter removes at least 98.6% of all 10 µ particles at ß = 75.

Nominal filter fineness

This term is derived from oil filtration in internal combustion engines. In contrast, nominal filter fineness does not indicate the percentage of particles removed. So, for example, a “nominal” 10 µ filter may remove only 50% of all 10 µ particles. Therefore, nominal filter fineness has nothing to do with filter efficiency!

Filter Housing

The filter housing in which the filter element is located.

Filter media

The filter media is the material in which the filtration takes place. For example, there are cellulose, glass fibers, polyester and so on.

Service life

Service life is measured in hours (h) and is the actual time a filter is in operation before it requires maintenance.

In the field of construction machinery, where the efficiency and reliability of the equipment is of paramount importance, air filtration plays an extremely important role. The compressor filter is an often overlooked component, but it plays a vital role in the operation of the machine. It ensures the purity of the air drawn into the compressor and protects it from contaminants that can cause malfunctions and shorten the life of the equipment.

Basic function of the compressor filter

The basic task of a compressor filter is to stop air contaminants such as dust, pollen, bacteria and oil. It is important to note that not only the equipment, but also the health of the environment and the user depends on the effective operation of the filter.

How does a compressor air filter affect the operation of a compressor?

An effective compressor air filter is a key element in allowing you to maintain constant pressure and eliminate malfunctions caused by contaminated air. A properly functioning filter increases compressor efficiency and trouble-free operation.

The Importance of Clean Air for Longer Compressor Life

The long life of a compressor depends largely on the quality of the supply air. Clean air free of contaminants is the key to avoiding costly repairs and machine downtime. Compressor filters are therefore not only an element of equipment protection, but also an investment in its long-term efficiency.

Types of compressor filters: from sponge to synthetic fibers

Our store offers various types of compressor filters. From traditional sponge filters to modern synthetic fiber filters. They each have their own unique properties and applications, allowing you to customize the filter to your specific needs.

Sponge air filters vs. synthetic fiber filters: a comparison

Sponge filters are simple in design, but may not be as effective as synthetic fiber filters. We'll compare these two types of filters so you know which one will best meet your expectations.

How do I choose the right filter for my air compressor?

Choosing the right filter for your compressor requires several key factors to be considered, such as the type of compressor, its size, the specifics of the job, and the type of contaminants present in the environment. Our store and our experts will help you make the right choice.

Buying a compressor filter: what to look for?

When buying a compressor filter, it is worth paying attention to several key parameters, such as the degree of filtration, airflow and compatibility with the equipment. This ensures that the filter meets your expectations.

The right type of filter and optimal engine protection

The type of filter is closely related to the protection of the compressor engine. A correctly selected filter will ensure long engine life and reliability, which means efficient operation of the entire unit.

Compressor filter replacement and maintenance

Changing and maintaining filters is a key task that affects the efficiency and durability of your compressor. We will show you when and how to change the filter and the benefits of regular maintenance.
