The shallow sand filter comprises one or multiple standard high-speed sand cylinder units equipped with distinctive internal water distribution and water collectors. It features a unique automatic flushing valve, enabling the individual backwashing of multiple standard high-speed sand cylinders during regular system operation, all under fully automatic program control. This system boasts minimal backwashing water consumption, easy installation, and straightforward operation. With a high flow rate and negligible maintenance requirements, the equipment is available in two series—vertical and horizontal—to accommodate diverse water quality treatment needs across various fields.
The shallow sand filter finds application in various industries and settings where effective water filtration is needed. Some common applications include:
Municipal Water Treatment: Shallow sand filters are widely used in municipal water treatment plants to remove suspended solids, turbidity, and other impurities from raw water before it is distributed for public consumption.
Industrial Water Filtration: Industries such as manufacturing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and electronics rely on shallow sand filters to purify process water, removing contaminants that could interfere with production processes or compromise product quality.
Agricultural Irrigation: Shallow sand filters play a crucial role in agricultural irrigation systems by removing sediments, debris, and organic matter from water sources, thereby protecting crops from clogging and ensuring efficient water distribution.
Swimming Pool Filtration: In recreational facilities and swimming pools, shallow sand filters are used to maintain water clarity and purity by capturing dirt, algae, and other particulate matter present in the water.
Wastewater Treatment: Shallow sand filters are employed in wastewater treatment plants to treat effluent water before it is discharged into the environment. These filters help remove contaminants and pollutants, contributing to cleaner waterways and environmental protection.
Aquaculture: In aquaculture systems such as fish farms and shrimp ponds, shallow sand filters are utilized to maintain water quality by removing organic matter, excess nutrients, and suspended solids, creating a conducive environment for aquatic life.
Stormwater Management: Shallow sand filters are incorporated into stormwater management systems to filter runoff from urban areas, roads, and parking lots, capturing pollutants and preventing them from entering natural water bodies.
Groundwater Remediation: In groundwater remediation projects, shallow sand filters are used to treat contaminated groundwater, removing contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and hydrocarbons through filtration processes.
The filter units come in a range of sizes, spanning from 24 inches (500mm) to 96 inches (2400mm), offering flexibility in installation options. They can function independently as a standalone filtration system, utilizing the existing process supply pump. Alternatively, when used as a bypass filter, they can be equipped with their own pump. Moreover, filters can be installed in multiple treatment units on common pipework, enabling unlimited filtration capacity for the system.
Backwashing of the filter system can be executed manually, semi-automatically, or fully automatically. This process can be initiated through various means such as a manual button, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), pressure differential, or management system. The backwash cycle and duration are adjustable, typically set at 3 minutes at the factory, controlled by the PLC automatic filter control system.
Key features include:
High filtration speed and low pressure loss, effectively addressing issues like slow filtration speed and small flow rate in common mechanical media filters.
Modular design with a small footprint and reduced piping, resulting in significant space and cost savings.
Option for manual, semi-automatic, or automatic backwashing to cater to different requirements.
Flexible backwashing water source selection, including from the system, water tower, or external source, with automatic switching available for special requirements.
Ability to combine multiple units and expand processing flow as needed.
Construction using carbon steel Q235B or stainless steel for durability.
Integration of imported core components from trusted brands such as BERMAD, BACCARA, SIEMENS, and MITSUBISHI.
Design featuring a single chamber for enhanced backwashing effectiveness and reduced sand run-off rate.
Water collector available in stainless steel or ABS for extended lifespan.
Outlet pipe positioned at the bottom of the unit for reduced water resistance and easier maintenance.
How does the system work?
Filtration Status:
The shallow sand filter comprises multiple filtration units arranged side by side. During the filtering phase, untreated water is uniformly distributed via a proprietary water distributor developed by the company. This water flows through the filter's filler layer, consisting of refined homogeneous quartz sand, in a laminar manner. As the water traverses the packing layer, impurities are trapped within it. Several water collectors, evenly distributed at the bottom of the filter, collect and draw out the filtered water uniformly. This level flow filtration mechanism enables the filter to handle high flow rates while maintaining effective filtration.
Backwashing Status:
As impurities accumulate in the packing layer, internal pressure head loss gradually increases. When the inlet and outlet head loss reaches a predetermined threshold, the system automatically activates the differential pressure device, initiating the backwashing process. During backwashing, the hydraulic valve alters the water supply direction to facilitate sequential backwashing, making it easier to clean accumulated impurities. Notably, while the system is in backwash mode, filtration continues, with the sand cylinder slated for backwashing not being filtered, while others in the system continue to filter. Part of the filtered clean water is used for backwashing, while the remainder is sent to customers. Backwash effluent is discharged through the backwash drain in the hydraulic valve.
In high-efficiency filtration systems for high-speed sand cylinders, a specially designed collector enables the fillers to be scrubbed against each other, maximizing backwashing efficiency and reducing the volume of backwash water required. After a standard sand cylinder undergoes backwashing for 3 minutes and its internal pressure head loss reduces to a reasonable range, a recovery signal is sent by the pressure setting device. Subsequently, the hydraulic valve returns to the filter state, and the next sand cylinder is primed for backwashing. The system can also be controlled based on time, with default settings for backwashing every 4 hours, adjustable according to site conditions. The dual system control operates without a primary and secondary designation, facilitating seamless operation.
